Artist Biography
Sujatha Kristensen, born 1986, is a Swedish-Danish visual artist based in Malmö, Sweden. She was born in Sri Lanka, raised in Sweden and the United Arab Emirates by Danish parents.
After leaving home at 18, she's had the privilege and opportunity to live and study in many places around the world.
She initially holds a Master’s degree in Economics and later, a Bachelor's degree and Behavioural Science & Psychology. However due to unfortunate injuries and traumatic events throughout her twenties, her life didn’t pan out the way she had expected, forcing her to leave her planned life and career. Instead she has spent her adulthood attending to the aftermath, dealing with chronic pain, unexplained physical symptoms and trauma symptoms. In 2018, her nervous system couldn’t take anymore and she fell ill to M.E/CFS. A year after she found her way to painting.
At first it was just a hobby to create distraction – not having to think of her current reality nor having to feel the painful wounds for a moment. But as time went on she found purpose, sense of direction, and joy in abstract painting and the entrepreneurship around it.
While she continues to cope with her daily health battles and working to heal her nervous system, she paints from home and connects with the world through her art. She hopes that her art can be a source of conversation and inspiration to others.
